Alice and Hank were well known among the ranchers of Wyoming and Montana for square dancing events; Hank was a top-rated caller and Alice worked the floor, helping dancers with the movements.
Alice and Hank also instructed round and folk dancing moves for eager dancers. Many dancing enthusiasts delighted in Hank and Alice’s exhibition dances, especially Alice’s performance of the traditional Scottish sword dance.
Alice also worked for many years as an executive secretary for the Pipeline Transmission Division of MDU in Glendive, Montana. After retirement, the couple spent 20 enjoyable years traveling the U.S. in their motor home. They shared their adventures through delightful letters to their children and grandchildren.
Alice Dell was preceded in death by Hank, her husband of 64 years; her daughter, Jancey who died at an early age; and her sister, Betty Dean.
Her survivors include a sister, Denise, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; two sons, David of Bozeman and Jon of Clinton, Miss.; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Elks Cemetery in Sheridan, Wyo. at a later date.
