Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. (MST) Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Monarch Academy in Heron, Mont. A reception will follow at the Heron Community Center.
Lorie was born August 15, 1965 in Van Nuys, Calif. to Mike and Christine Pfaff. She attended schools in Granada Hills and graduated high school in Chatsworth, Calif. in 1983. Lorie continued her education at Cal Poly Pomona earning her bachelor degree in zoology. She then attended Humboldt State College for a short time. Lorie married Jeff Bayersdorf in 1994, she lived in McKinleyville and worked as a veterinarian assistant. She moved to Alaska and was divorced.
Brian was born April 25, 1967 in Baltimore, Md. to Paul and Veronica Hartman. He graduated from Parkville Senior High School in Baltimore and attended Essex Community College. Brian worked as a travel consultant for AAA and as a professional truck driver. He married Christina Sasaki in 1993 in Baltimore, he lived in Alaska and they later divorced.
Brian and Lorie were married June 21, 2003 in Clinton, Mont. The couple made their home in Heron, where they both worked for the Monarch Academy; Brian in security and Lorie as an administrative assistant. They loved living the western lifestyle spending time outdoors with their animals and horseback riding in the Bob Marshall Wilderness area. Their goal was to be self-sustainable.
Lorie was a breast cancer survivor and Brian was taking her out on their motorcycle to celebrate her one year cancer- free anniversary. She is survived by her father Mike (Anita) Pfaff of Heron; sister Jeany Pfaff of Los Angeles; and niece Veronica Pfaff Van Hoosen of Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by her mother Christine in 2005.
Brian is survived by his mother Veronica Hartman of Baltimore; sister Cynthia (Paul) Hartman-Landefeld of Baltimore; brother David Hartman of Hydes, Md. (companion Ellen Hubbard); nephew Philip Landefeld of Baltimore; and aunt Lorraine Filipiak of Baltimore. Brian was preceded in death by his father Paul in 2011.
