Cris was born July 17, 1949 to Betty White-Hankins and Paul Ash in Alturas, Calif. She attended and graduated from Corning High School, Corning, Calif. in 1967.
Cris married Victor James of Klammath Falls, Ore. March 14, 1971 in Alturas, Calif. at the Elks Club. Cris and Victor had their first child, Michael Ray James May 12, 1972. Victor’s job moved them to Monta Vista, Colo. where they had their second child, Jeffery Paul James, October 29, 1974. Shortly after, they moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Cris gave birth to her third child, Paul Daniel James, November 30, 1977. They then moved back to Alturas, Calif. where they stayed for the next nine years.
Victor’s job again moved them to Noxon, a place Victor and Cris fell in love with and would stay for the next 20+ years. After the boys graduated high school, Cris lived her dream and opened the Noxon Café. She met many people from her time as a restaurant owner and became a staple of the Noxon community.
She is survived by her parents Paul Ash of Alturas, Calif. and Betty White-Hankins of Dodge City, Kansas; husband Victor “Butch” James of Glendive, Mont.; sons, Mike (Vicki) James of Glendive, Jeff James of Glendive, and Dan (Misti) James of Florence, Mont.; siblings, Renae (Tom) Redman of Talkeetna, Alaska, Charla (Jay) Barker of Dodge City, Kansas, Traci (Buck) Silva of Alturas, Calif., Mary Jo (Jim) Owens of Ignacio, Colo., Terri (Alejandro) Gonzales of Mexico, Chris (Doug) Christ of Woodland, Calif., Sandy Hartman of Alturas, Steve (Bev) Melon of Kent, Wash., Michael (Dianne) Ramsey of Portland, Ore. and Laurel (Steve) Ramsey of Portland; eleven grandchildren, Jordan, Damien, Brendan, Anthony, Cameron, Connor, Ethan, Mikah, Raydan, Kaelan, Lilly and one great-grandchild, Austin, and one on the way, Benjamin.
