Dee was born Feb. 12, 1925 in Brownsville, Penn. to Herschel and Mary Reece. During World War II Dee worked in the Pittsburg Naval Yard as a welder. She married Virgil “Bud” Mays in 1956 in Galena, Ill. They later operated “Bud and Dee’s Crossroad Tavern” in Burlington, Wisc. In 1974 they retired to Tucson, Ariz. Bud died in 1986 and Dee moved to Thompson Falls to be closer to family.
Dee was a good mother and loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting, and raising flowers and plants.
She is survived by her two daughters Donna (Jerry) Neal of Thompson Falls, and Karla (Meredith) Keller of Moyie Springs, Idaho; son Tim (Annette) Mays of San Tan, Ariz.; step-sons Donald (Phyllis) Mays of Dubuque, Iowa and Dennis Mays of Black River Falls, Wisc.; eight grandchildren, Tracy Sherrow, Todd Neal, Aarron and Ryan Keller, Stacy Parton, Kevin, Jim and Elliot Mays; 11 great grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud Mays, two brothers Donald and Buck Reece, and sister Dorothy Glotfelty.
