Brother James was born in Cross City, Fla. to the late Ed and Margaret Butler.
He graduated from Dixie County High School in 1956 and then went to barber college in Jacksonville, going on to barber in Cross City.
He married his wife Carla in 1960 and they shared 55 wonderful years together.
He also commercial fished and for 58 years was a minister. His passion in life was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a poet, an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors.
Brother James will always be remembered for his love for God, his wife, family and fellow man as well as his quick wit, integrity, honesty and faithfulness.
Brother James is survived by his wife Carla Butler; sons, James M. (Barbara) Butler, Jr., of Horseshoe Beach, Fla., Jubal (Alandra) Butler of Baldwyn, Miss. and Jeremy (Carmen) Butler of Guntown, Miss.; daughters, Carleena (John) Sherrill of Horseshoe Beach, Fla., Mary (Jeff) Reed of Trout Creek, Jael (Albert) Headings of Rose, Okla. and Joanna (Sam) Carrol of Adamsville, Tenn.: sister Janelle Hall of Cross City, Fla.; 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Margaret Butler, and his son Carl “Bubby” Butler.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 5 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Butler Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday evening, September 4.
