Rich was born June 1, 1930 in Indianapolis, Ind. to Carl and Isabel (Black) Welty. In 1946, the family moved to Plains. December 15, 1949, Rich married Melva Arnold. Four children came from this union, Christine, Steve, Ricki Lynn and Greg.
After he married, Rich worked for BB Owen until he and Melva bought the business in 1967. They ran Western Hardware & Implement together until 1994.
Rich was a 4-H leader with Melva for many years. He was a long standing member on the TV District and a member of the Plains/Paradise Senior Citizens. Rich was the TOPS Montana State King in 2011.
Rich was a jack of all trades and devoted one hundred percent of his time and skill to all of his projects. His knowledge about electronics, mechanical, plumbing and farm equipment, to mention a few, was vast. He was much loved by many people. Rich was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Rich was preceded in death by his daughter Ricki Brooks and granddaughter Jada Sparks. He is survived by his wife Melva, daughter Chris and sons Steve (Winnie) and Greg (Sherry) all of Plains. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Hills Funeral Homes, Plains and Thompson Falls.
