She was born in a bomb shelter in Somerset, England July 11, 1940. In 1948 she and her parents moved by ship to Lemington, Ontario, Canada. She moved to Seattle, Wash. in 1958, then in 1974 to Thompson Falls.
Sammy worked as a waitress for many years, mainly for Kathy Brietenbach, served on the city council for six years, and, in the past, was president of the senior center.
Jim and Sammy were married Sept. 12, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Thompson Falls.
Sammy was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Hellier and Eileen (Higgs) Hellier.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Hurst; four children, Tom Mazur and wife Becky of Thompson Falls; Debby (Mazur) Franck and husband Charlie of Thompson Falls, Leonard Holstin and wife Mary of Pensacola, Fla. and Danielle (Holstin) Creekmore and husband Patrick of Rathdrum, Idaho; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
