2 dead in Trout Creek shooting

A woman is dead and another man wounded after a shooting outside Trout Creek on Saturday evening. According to a statement from the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was found later and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call at 8:50 p.m. that two individuals had been shot at a residence on Hope Valley Road, which is southwest of Trout Creek. The caller, a male, reported that he had just shot the daughter of his friend and his friend. The caller reported that a female at the residence was deceased and another male had a gunshot wound to the shoulder, according to the police report.

Deputies arrived at the location and verified that two people had been shot. The man who was shot was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula with a gunshot wound.

The suspect had fled the scene and deputies located the suspect a short distance from the residence with the help of Two Bear Air search and rescue out of Whitefish. The suspect was deceased when found.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release further information, and names of the victims and the suspect were held pending notification of next of kin. The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
