You’ve heard of Henry David Thoreau… how about Bart Haflich Four-Oh?

“That’s ‘Noxon Red Devils Four-Oh’,” Haflich, the coach of the Noxon girls and boys teams said in correcting the previous statement after both his teams swept their two games at the Tip-Off Tournament in Frenchtown last weekend. “Both teams did a lot of good things in our games at Frenchtown. We know there are tougher games looming ahead, but we are happy with how we played last week.”

For the record, the Red Devil boys scored a 62-51 win over Clark Fork (Montana) Friday and a 61-52 victory over Lincoln Saturday while the Lady Red Devils beat Darby 38-31 Friday and Victor 58-8 Saturday.

Both Devil teams will now play Troy in Troy Friday before returning to Noxon for their home openers against Clark Fork (Idaho) Saturday.

“It will be nice to finally play a game in the Devils’ Den,” Haflich said of Saturday’s upcoming tilts with Noxon’s neighbors from Idaho. “The kids know each other pretty well, so it should be fun games for everyone involved.”

Both Devil teams were involved in some winning basketball last week.

For the boys, the win over Clark Fork was hard-earned as the Mountain Cats and Devils were tied at 25-25 at halftime. Seizing control, Noxon won the third quarter 19-12 and the fourth 18-14 to move to the victory.

Rylan Weltz scored 20 points to lead the Devils, Logan Wood added 18, Levi Brubaker eight, Alex Currie and Ethan Hinrichsen six apiece and Owen Fisher four.

Conner Voll led Clark Fork with 14 points, Aaron Waddle added 10 and Bryan Mask and Michael Spence nine each.

Wood scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Red Devil boys to the win over Lincoln, Weltz added 13, Brubaker seven, Currie and Fisher six each and Hinrichsen three.

Nathan Wood scored a game-high 29 points for Lincoln and Payton Peterson chipped in with 16 more for the Lynx.

In the Lady Red Devils’ win over Darby, Cory Brodmerkle led the West End girls with 14 points, Anna Kaiser scored 10, Delaney Weltz eight, Phalyn Fickas five and Kristina Brown one.

Gracie Lang paced Darby with 18 points.

The win over Victor Saturday was never in doubt as the Lady Devils raced out to a 22-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Kaiser finished with 22 points to lead the Noxon win, Weltz added 17, Brodmerkle eight Brown seven and Fickas four.
