Lady Hawks play well but fall

January 11, 2018

The Lady Hawks may have not won on the scoreboard, but they did play a quality opponent very competitively in a hostile environment Saturday, falling only 50-42 to Eureka in Eureka. In other action last week, the Hawks traveled to Missoula and fell to Loyola Sacred Heart 63-21 last Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Now 0-2 in 7B conference play, coach Doree Thilmony and her Lady Hawks play another quality league foe in Bigfork at Thompson Falls Thursday before heading to Deer Lodge for a non-conference tilt with the Lady Wardens Saturday.

Additionally, the Lady Hawks will host Clark Fork (the co-op between Alberton and Superior) in another non-league contest Tuesday.

The Lady Hawks fell behind 16-3 after one quarter and 38-10 after two and never were able to fully recover against Loyola.

Freshmen twin towers Megan Baxter and Jody Detlaff scored six points apiece to lead the Hawks in Missoula, Haley Morgan added four points, Faith Frields three and Belle Cooper two.

Tessa Burke scored 14 points to lead a balanced Breaker attack.

At Eureka, the Lady Hawks were in the game the whole way and trailed only 36-34 entering the fourth quarter, until Eureka finally pulled away with a 14-8 win of the final eight minutes.

Baxter put down 11 points to lead the Hawks in that game, Sarah Detlaff and Morgan added eight each, Jody Detlaff seven, and Cooper and Riley Wilson two each.

Sienna Utter scored 17 points for Eureka and Karlee Frost and Casie Hammack 10 each.
