Positive Savage Heat move to 2 more wins

The power of positivity.

On a three-game winning streak extended by victories over Victor (48-8) and Valley Christian (41-19) in Hot Springs Thursday and Saturday, Lady Savage Heat coach Richard Jackson wants his girls to keep on thinking good things this week when they visit Plains Thursday and host Noxon Saturday.

The key District 14C games with their Sanders County brethren aside, Jackson sees room for positive thinking about his young team.

“These girls are all finding their individual niches, how they fit in on this team,” he said, “and we have two weeks left in the regular season to work on it some more.

“All said and done,” he continued, “we want to be playing our best when the tournaments arrive, and I think we are headed in that direction.”

The Heat’s games last week were with teams that are severely struggling this season. That gave Jackson the chance to get all his girls playing time. “We went to our bench pretty heavy in both games,” he said. “I am convinced that if you want to get to the next level, you need kids that can play on the bench.”

Hapless Victor never had a chance Thursday as the Heat roared out to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and cruised in for the win.

McKennzie Cannon led the Heat with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, Stacy Gray added eight points, eight rebounds and eight steals, Sage Jackson eight points, Sydney Jackson six, Lexi DeTienne three and Lizzy Fisher and Danielle Graham two apiece.

Against Valley Christian, Sydney Jackson led the Heat with 12 points, Cannon scored 11, Graham four, and Fisher, Sage Jackson and Emma Rae Rasmussen two apiece.

Gray registered 10 steals in that game, DeTienne and Cannon had eight rebound each and Sage Jackson four assists.

Morgan Brewer and Kaytlin Kelly scored six points each for Valley Christian.
