Busy as bees

Athletes close in on tournaments

Sanders County high school athletes will be as busy as bees this week as the spring sports schedules rapidly wind down towards their inevitable conclusions.

In track and field, the post season begins in earnest for Class C teams as thinclads from Districts 13C and 14C will gather up in Missoula for the maiden voyage of a combined district meet format Friday and Saturday at MCPS Stadium.

District 7B will not have a conference meet this season and teams will instead wait for the Western B divisional track and field meet in Frenchtown May 17-18.

In their final tune-up before the Western B, the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks will compete in the Bigfork Invitational Saturday.

On the softball diamond, the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks, after completing regular season play with a game against Drummond in Mission Tuesday, will then wait to see who they play in a Western B-C divisional tournament play-in game next week.

The Plains-Hot Springs Trotters, after visiting Loyola in Missoula Thursday, will then cool their heels until playing in the Western B-C divisional tourney at Florence May 18-19. The Trotters have earned District 7B’s No. 1 seed into that tournament, and the top two teams from Florence will qualify for the State B-C tourney in Belgrade the following week.

In prep golf, the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks were to have played in the Western B divisional tournament in Bigfork Tuesday but results of that meet were not available at press time.

The Falls players who qualify in Bigfork will then move on to the State B tournament in Shepherd May 14-16.

After playing through on their final chance to qualify for the State C golf tournament in Anaconda May 14-15 at a qualifier at Trestle Creek in St. Regis Monday, the Plains golfers who make the grade will then compete in that tournament next week.
