Devil athletes score big

Little big team.

The Noxon Red Devil track and field teams, not big in numbers but long on talent and desire, accorded themselves quite well at the Western C divisional meet in Frenchtown, as the Devil boys scored 44 points to end up in a tie for fifth place with 14C champion Charlo, and the Lady Devils scored 9 team points to finish 12th in the Western C.

Levi Brubaker and Rylan Weltz were the most productive point-scorers for the West End kids.

PUTTING FORTH maximum effort, Noxon junior Delaney Weltz competes in the shot put at the Western C divisional meet.

A force in the jumps most of the season, Brubaker was the only Noxon athlete to win in Frenchtown claiming top honors in the triple jump with a fine effort of 42 feet, 6.5 inches, besides taking second place in the long jump with an equally impressive effort of 20-3.

Seeming to go farther in the throws each time out this spring, Weltz was dynamite in all three last week, winning second in the discus (134-3), third in the javelin (156-4) and fourth in the shot put (39-8.75).

Edison VanVleet took fifth place in the 110 meter hurdles and the Devils' 1600 meter relay team ran to sixth place in that race for the Noxon boys' final scoring in the meet.

For the Lady Red Devils, Delaney Weltz won third in the shot put (31-2) and sixth in the javelin (101-2), and Cory Brodmerkle placed fifth in the discus (92-7) to score all the Noxon girls' points in the meet.
