Plains thinclads move on

SANDMAN SINJIN LADEAUX kicks up some sand upon landing after a long jump in Frenchtown Friday. LaDeaux won sixth place in this event.

In Class C, only the best of the best even get the opportunity to move on to the State C track and field meet.

Proving to be among the best in the west, the Plains Trotters scored 38.5 points and placed seventh and the Horsemen tallied 30 points to also win seventh in team scoring at the Western C divisional meet in Frenchtown Thursday and Friday.

Plains coach Denise Montgomery, her assistant coaches James Jermyn and Rheanna Fultz, and the Trotters and Horsemen who earned their way will now participate in the State C meet in Great Falls Friday and Saturday.

As usual over the past few seasons, Jessica Thompson was Plains' biggest point-scorer in Frenchtown, winning first place medals in the shot put (39 feet, 7 inches), discus (135-3) and javelin (126-4) to pace the Trotters, scoring 30 team points all by herself.

The defending State C champ in the shot and discus, Thompson also spent part of her weekend playing softball for Plains-Hot Springs and helped the Trotters win third place in the Western B-C divisional tournament at Florence (see other story).

Lindsay Laws won fourth in the javelin and sixth in the shot put, Cree Lulack took fifth in the 300 meter hurdles, Mariah Smith ran down sixth in the 400 meters and Kylee Altmiller tied for sixth place in the high jump to round out scoring for the Trotters.

For the Horsemen, the long, triple and high jumping duo of Brandon Managhan and Sinjin LaDeuax were a very productive pair indeed in Frenchtown.

Managhan won second place medals in the long jump (20 feet, 4 inches) and triple jump (41-7.75), and tied teammate LaDeaux for third in the high jump with both clearing 5-10.

LaDeaux also placed sixth in the long jump with a best effort of 19-8.

The Horsemen's 400 meter relay placed fifth in that race and Malachi Paulsen won sixth place in the javelin for the Plains boys' only other scoring in the meet.
