Area students perform well at Science Olympiad

Students interested in science from Noxon and Thompson Falls competed in the 32nd Science Olympiad in Bozeman the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Both junior high and high school students took part in the challenge.

In the high school, or Division C standings, Thompson Falls placed 21st overall. Noxon High placed 43rd. Overall 51 schools participated.

Student teams from Thompson Falls placed in the top 20 in Ecology (14th), Herpetology (13th), Hovercraft (5th) and Rocks and Minerals (20th).

Noxon had a ninth-place finish in Experimental Design, 25th in Optics and 32nd in Write It Do It events.

In Division B, or junior high, Thompson Falls finished in 35th place overall, while Noxon Junior High matched their elders by earning another finish at 43rd. There were 57 schools competing in Division B.

Thompson Falls Junior High top finishing events were Crime Busters (12th), Optics (15th), Solar System (19th) and Wright Stuff (5th).

Noxon Division B top finishes include Optics (19th), Roller Coaster (9th) and Towers (13th).

Students who participated in the 2017 Science Olympiad from Noxon are Levi Brubaker, Phalyn Fickas, Edison Van Vleet, Matthew Kaiser, Emily Brown, Avery Burgess, Nate Cano, Aubrey Erwin, Vanessa Horner, Callie Kaiser, Caelyn Marshall, Jaedyn Murray, Gabby Stough and Cade Van Vleet.

Thompson Falls participants included Kole Stone, Wilson Sorenson, Nathan Burwig, Justin Morgan, Gabriella Pallister, Jolia Buchanan, Megan Baxter, Haley Morgan, Josey Neesvig, Eric Melendez, Maddie Kyllo, Gabriella Pallister, Ellie Baxter, Marcella Hodges, Danielle Hodges, Trinity Riffle, Hattie Neesvig, Mackenzie Robinson, Olivia Harnett, Kael Brown and Theo Nygaard.
