Fundraiser set at Rex Theatre

December 28, 2017

WITH MODERATE AND EXTREME remodels and fixes over the years, the Rex Theatre in Thompson Falls is a Main Street landmark that has been the venue of county entertainment for over 75 years. Since the movie industry’s expensive switch to digital, the local theatre has leaned heavily on live performances and generous donations to keep the doors open and the stage available for local and traveling musicians, high school plays, birthday parties and fundraisers.

Those who have a special place in their hearts and memories of the old theater can help out this weekend during a special movie showing and fundraiser. “Timberjack” was filmed in Montana and released with much anticipation in 1955. In homage to those days, the theater will have a showing of the movie Friday, December 28, 2 p.m., and Saturday, December 29 at 7 p.m. Just like in 1955, there will be logging trucks parked in front of the theatre, as well as contests and prizes (attendees will want to dress as their best impression of a lumberjack or a showgirl for a chance at prizes). A Caterpillar 320 log loader will be up for sale from Western States Caterpillar of Missoula. The dealer has promised a portion of any sales would go toward the Rex Theatre’s fundraiser.
