37th Keg Bowl will be for Randy

December 28, 2017

This one is for Randy.

The 37th annual Keg Bowl, also known as the Blue Hawk Grid Iron Club Scholarship Bowl, will be played at the old mill site east of Thompson Falls Saturday, and it will not be just for fun this time, it will also be played for Randy Pirker.

A long-time Keg Bowl participant, either as a player years ago or, in more recent years, as one of the game’s referees, Randy has recently come down ill and his expenses are piling up.

As a result of Randy’s situation, Grid Iron Club president Doug Willhite says that all money raised from this year’s game will be donated to Pirker, a worthy cause for the Keg Bowl if there ever was one.

The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. Saturday and players are asked to show up a little early armed with a dark and a light jersey, for the drafting of teams, and the ceremonial drafting of the keg for which this game was originally named. Keg Bowl fans, of course, as always are welcome before during and after the game.

The Keg Bowl, as always, will be played with flag football rules except for the quarterbacks, who are subject to being tackled. It is hoped that there is enough snow on the ground at game time to slow the game down from a break-neck speed and provide at least some cushioning to the older bodies that will be falling down in it.
