Pizzeria owner keeps it simple

PIZZA IS LOVE and love is pizza, especially for fans of Simple Simons Pizza in Thompson Falls. Former employee, Andrea Farmer, has taken ownership of the Power City pizzeria. Her vision includes new regular specials, coloring contests for kids, pizza by the slice, and fulltime delivery to Plains and Trout Creek.

Belief in product led a part-time employee to take an investment leap into one of the favorite franchises in Thompson Falls. Andrea Farmer worked for Plains Simple Simons Pizza owners, Shawn and Shawna Purkeypyle. After a time, the owners approached Farmer to see if she'd be interested in purchasing the Thompson Falls location. "I took some time to think about it and mull it over with my husband and family," shared Farmer. "It just felt right, so we got the ball rolling."

Farmer moved to Plains from Seattle, where she utilized her business mind for Boeing. While a near-daily commute from Plains to work might be a bit much for some, Farmer said she enjoys it, especially since her husband, Buddy, does the driving. "It is a beautiful drive, especially compared to Seattle where it takes a half hour to go five miles," she joked, noting that Buddy and their four children have been a big help, "He's been so supportive throughout all of this, we make a great team."

Since taking over the location in January, Farmer has been working to get the word out about the new ownership and the fresh ideas that are in place to better serve, entertain and satisfy customers. She knows not everyone wants a whole pizza for lunch, so the location offers $2 pizza by the slice Monday through Friday 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sundays, noon - 2 p.m., marks the opening of the $8.99 salad bar/pizza buffet with beverage included.

"I'm hoping our specials become familiar to those who want a consistent lunch option and love Simple Simon's products," Farmer said, "there are regular specials and we are beefing up our social media presence and deal offers." Dinner-for-two and family packages are now available, and there are items not found at most Simple Simon's Pizza locations, such as ice cream and milkshakes.

There are over 250 franchise locations in the south-midwest, and two in Montana (Plains location is closed, but the Libby location opened and sold by the Purkeypyles is still running – and is the only Simple Simons with a beer/wine liquor license). Farmer recently returned from Oklahoma where the franchise gave her in-depth training and insight into the business. Farmer is glad the pizzeria is a franchise, since it offers the security and backing provided by corporate headquarters. "I appreciate the fact that it is a Christian-based business," explained Farmer, "and, of course, I am a believer in the product's quality. Who doesn't love a good pizza?"

Coloring contests for different age groups are offered in-store to keep kids entertained and the convenience of delivery has been expanded, and is always available during business hours (with the exception of intense blizzards, as discovered last week). "With the closing of the Plains location, we are running pizzas out that way to serve Simple Simons lovers," shared Farmer, adding that there is a $50 minimum and $10 delivery fee. Farmer has even come up with solutions for those who live off the beaten path. "We can arrange to meet Plains orders in town for those who live way out of the way," clarified Farmer. "We also have a 'take and bake' option for those worried their orders won't be hot after the drive. But food from the oven is immediately placed in the heat bags, so that shouldn't be a problem. The Falls pizzeria also delivers to Trout Creek.

The local franchise location is well-known for its community involvement in schools, fundraisers and other events. Farmer said they will continue that tradition and look for new ways to be involved, as well. "This is a great community we are blessed with," Farmer shared, "we are glad to be a part of it."
