A man accused of inappropriately touching his 15-year-old granddaughter while on a camping trip was sentenced to the Department of Corrections by District Court Judge James Manley on Tuesday. Christopher Barry pleaded guilty to felony sexual assault. Judge Manley sentenced Barry to 10 years with the Department of Corrections with 7.5 years suspended, and ordered Barry to pay $3,698.81 in restitution. Barry was charged after the assault that occurred on a camping trip at the Fish Trap Campground. Barry’s attorney, Peter Leander, had argued for probation for Barry.

“These are the hardest sentences,” Judge Manley said. “There’s a lot about him indicating he’s not a bad man. On the other hand, it’s always troubling and haunting to hear the damage on children. The child has to know she is not guilty.”

Also in court on Tuesday, Jeremy Mundy pleaded guilty to criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, and driving without insurance. Mundy has been in jail since his arrest after a traffic stop on Feburary 27. Judge Manley set sentencing for April 24.

Kellie Beggs pleaded guilty via Alford plea Tuesday to criminal endangerment, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of risisting arrest and assult with a bodily fluid. Beggs’s charges stem from an incident in Hot Springs in October of 2017.

Richard Morigeau of Dixon pleaded guilty in court Tuesday to assault with a weapon. Sentencing was set for April 24 for Morigeau, who was arrested in January 2017 by tribal police for partner family member assault after hitting a woman over the head with a board and allegedly kicking and punching her, according to court documents.
