Republicans vie for precinct committee posts

With the filing deadline past for local and state elections and the June 5 primary a couple months away, the Republican and Democrat Central committees are also in the midst of electing precinct committee members.

Bobbi Christenson with the Sanders County Election Office said that the county Democrats have opted to appoint their committeemen and committeewomen, while the Sanders County Republican Central Committee has opted to allow voters to choose their precinct representatives by election. The precinct’s Republican committeeman and committeewoman candidates will appear on the Republican primary ballot June 5 only if there is a contested race for either the committeeman or committeewoman position, both positions for that precinct must appear on the ballot.

For precinct positions in which neither the committeeman or committeewoman do not have a contested race, those candidates that filed for their positions will be elected by acclamation to their positions.

One woman and one man from each precinct will be appointed, elected or elected by acclamation for each party to serve a 2-year term.
