Over the Hill gang plays blind man's bluff game

Over the Hill golfers may have strolled onto the grounds of River’s Bend Golf Course with their eyes wide open Monday morning, but they ended up going at it blind.

Using a blind draw format to choose partners, 32 Over the Hill golfers attacked the Bend in impromptu teams of two and Gary Thompson and Dave Garr shot a 73 in the day’s best example of the blind leading the blind.

Feeling their way around the Bend with the next best round of 76 were Mike Smith and Dave Petteys, and Lana Nolen and Jenz Jantzen were next with an 84.

Not using Braille symbology to decipher which club to use next, Dave Garr shot the best blind low gross of 35 for the men while Don Hansen factored in his handicap to come up with the low men’s net of 29. With eyes wide open, Nolen secured low women’s net honors with her well-adjusted round of 36.

In other blind-man’s bluff action, Bob Conklin rolled in the long putt on No. 11, Garr put down the long putt on No. 12, Randy Hojem knocked down the long putt on No. 13, Charlie Hooten was closest to the pin on No. 14 and hit the long men’s drive on 18, Doug Deck smacked the long 70+ drive on 15, Mike Gilmore made the day’s long putt on No. 15, Russ Wood made the long putt on No. 16, and Petteys put in the long putts on Nos. 17 and 18.

Nolen hit the long women’s drive on No. 18.

Hoping to see their golfing world a little more clearly next week, Over the Hill golfers who will not be vacationing somewhere else over Memorial Day weekend will once again gather at River’s Bend next Monday morning for an unofficial round.
