12U Hawks f inish season undefeated

Having a tournament winning team in little league baseball is a great feat. Going undefeated and ending up league champs and tournament champs is even greater. The Thompson Falls 12U baseball team did just that over the weekend, winning the league tournament in Plains.

The league includes Thompson Falls, St. Regis, Plains and Noxon. Thompson Falls ended regular season play 12-0, earning league champion honors. At the tournament, Thompson Falls defeated Noxon in the first round and St. Regis in the semis before beating Plains in the championship.

Coaches Mike Tessier, Mike Thilmony and Clay Anselmo, said it had been a long time since the league has an undefeated team. Tessier thinks it's as least 15 years, which is how long he's been coaching little league in the area.

Tessier said the Thompson Falls team had a lot of experience to push them in their undefeated season.

"We had the oldest team in the league, so we had a lot of experience," Tessier said. Depth on the mound helped as well. "We had five kids we could go to at any time to pitch. Our infield was really solid and we had great catching as well."

Tessier said the team remained focused on each game through the season, not paying much attention to the possibility of an undefeated season. Once the tournament was over, he said the team was elated and let their excitement show.

The team included Braxton Dorscher, Max Hannum, Justin Haagenson, Garth Parker, Mace Jacobson, Nick Tessier, Cael Thilmony, Andy Brotherton, Braydon Ferris and Riley Joplin.
