Summer block party planned

Based on the amount of local business support and involvement, it will be a block party to remember. Highlead Saloon is organizing a Summer Party for Saturday, July 7 from 4-8 p.m., and the parking lot that supports Christmas on Main Street will host the event with hot weather, instead of hot chocolate.

“A lot of this is up in the air at this point. But based on the interest from businesses and organizations who want to be present, there will be plenty to do for all ages,” said Highlead’s Cody Mosher, who noted that for the event the Sheriff’s Office will provide a deputy or two – for a dip in the dunk tank. “It should be entertaining. We’re hoping people will nominate community members to get in the dunk tank – especially school staff and law enforcement, since people seem to really like seeing them go under water,” Mosher laughed.

With big support from First Security Bank and Thompson River Lumber, Highlead’s Summer Party has enlisted the help of Harvest Foods, who gave a deal on melons that will be devoured in the watermelon eating contest. A corn on the cob eating contest will also take place. Help from Falls Main Street Committee, True Value, Sorlie Septic, Little Guy Wrestling and Thompson Falls High School students and football players will help to make the planning pan out into a full-blown event.

A $10 entry fee will get corn hole competitors out tossing bean bags at wooden planks (call the Highlead to register). Other games, food, face painting and prizes will be provided for families to enjoy. Dave and Deb Oliver will provide their blend of music ranging from 50’s bebop to traditional country to keep the evening hopping.

“We look forward to seeing everyone out there,” said Mosher, who has been busy getting the last-minute details together, “and there’s always room to get involved for anyone interested in helping out or being a part of the Summer Party.”
