County hires CFO

Connolly splits time with Sanders, Mineral counties

Sanders County has recently contracted Jessica Connolly for one year, totaling 500 hours, to assist the county with financial complexities.

Connolly, a St. Regis resident, is being shared with Mineral County for her financial expertise.

“I have over 20 years of auditing experience, I am a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), and have five years of government finance experience,” she said.

In December, the Sanders County Commissioners chose to consolidate the positions of Sanders County Clerk and Recorder and county Treasurer/Superintendent of Schools. With that, they also decided to hire a chief financial officer to manage the county’s finances and to keep the county expenses and budget planning in check.

According to Connolly, over the years financial reporting has gotten very complex. Most counties find it to be more precise and efficient to contract out financial reporting assistance rather than working it alone.

“What I am going to be doing here, the main thing anyway, is to help them with budget and help prepare the Annual Financial Report (AFR),” Connolly stated. She also commented that she will help in areas where she may find a more efficient way of doing business, as well as helping when projects come up that may benefit from her knowledge and skills.

Connolly encourages anyone who has any questions to contact her. She stated she enjoys talking about finances and is completely willing to help anyone understand the intricacies. She can be reached by calling the courthouse at 827-6922.
