Golf teams took to the course in Plains for the 7th annual Golf 4 Green tournament earlier this month. The tournament originated with hopes of reviving the Plains Golf Course, which was in desperate need of repairs.

"The course was just about lost," said Gary Revier, who has been involved with the tournament from the beginning. Tonya and Jack Revier spearheaded the tournament seven years ago after seeing a need and hoping to turn things around. Each year the proceeds from the tournament have gone to an improvement that was needed on the course.

In the first year, the money went to putting in a new irrigation system so that the grounds could be kept up and looking their best. After the second year, a new roof was put on the lodge and the lighting was improved. In year three, the bathrooms were remodeled and for the fourth year, concrete was poured for sidewalks around the lodge.

For the past two years the money that was raised has been saved to put towards establishing an RV park on the property. The RV park will cost roughly $35,000 and provide a way to generate funds for the course year-round.

"Each year the tournament brings in about four to five thousand dollars," said Gary Revier, adding that the tournament is very popular with teams coming from Missoula and even Ronan. "It would be great for the course to become self-sufficient," Revier said.

The Plains Golf Course has saved $13,000 for the RV park so far and has been able to start the process of acquiring the required permits and working with Rocky Mountain Surveyors.
