Thompson Falls cross country coach Sarah Naegeli thanks her lucky stars for River’s Bend Golf Course and the fine people who work there.

And Naegeli and the staff at River’s Bend can all be thanked for making the annual Thompson Falls Invitational such a successful cross country race year after year. This year’s Thompson Falls Invite will be held at scenic River’s Bend with racing scheduled to begin Thursday at 3 p.m. with the junior high boys race.

The junior high girls will follow at 3:30 p.m. after which the high school boys (4 p.m.) and finally the high school girls (4:30) will take center stage.

“We are lucky to have a golf course that is so supportive of our cross country team,” Naegeli said. “Thanks to everyone at the clubhouse, and to all our volunteers, for letting us hold our meet there and running it so well. They all help make it a special meet for the kids.”

Naegeli said she expects a total of 16 teams to attend the meet, adding that there should be 100-120 runners in each high school race, and about 40 apiece in the junior high events.

She said medals will be awarded to the top 10 placers in the high school races and to the top five finishers in the junior high races.

Naegeli said a pasta dinner for the teams and coaches will be hosted following the race. That dinner serves as a fundraiser for the Thompson Falls cross country program, which uses the money earned to buy food for morning practice sessions.

After the Thompson Falls meet, Hawk harriers will not officially race again until the Whitefish Invitational next Tuesday.
