Lady Lions top Hawks in five sets in Eureka

Net battles won, net battle lost…

The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks won their share of battles in a volleyball friendly with Eureka at Lincoln County High School Saturday, but in the end, the Lady Lions won the District 7B war 28-30, 24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 15-12.

Lady Hawk coach Sandra Kazmierczak was not disappointed with the result she was, in fact, glad to see her team play a match like that.

“It was a very good match, both teams played outstanding volleyball,” she said. “Eureka managed to pull it out in the end but I am happy with how we played.”

The Lady Hawks have only one net date on tap this week, at the Arlee Tournament Saturday. Thompson Falls was to have played at Plains Tuesday but results of that non-conference net contest were unavailable at press time.

Do-everything freshman Scarlette Schwindt did just that, a little bit of everything, in leading the Hawks in Eureka, spiking 13 kills, knocking down seven kills, coming up with 11 digs and passing out 13 set assists.

Riley Wilson dished out 14 assists, Maya Stiles added 14 digs and three aces, Belle Cooper blasted nine kills and blocked four shots, Jody Detlaff slammed eight kills and blocked four more shots, and Brooke Bowlin served up three aces.

Statistics for Eureka were not available.

Coach Rachel Hanson and her Lady Hawk JV also played in Eureka and lost their match.

Caity Alexander had two set assists and a block to lead the Lady Hawk JV, Faith Frields hit two assists, Kelsey Frank had seven digs, Danielle Hodges smacked two kills, Angel Whiting hit one kill and Gracie Claridge served up two of the Hawks’ five service aces in the match.
