FSPW explores wetland ecology

October 4, 2018

Join Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness on Saturday, Oct. 6, to enjoy meandering through riparian areas in search of autumn birds, wetland plants, animal tracks and sign, and wildlife on a road tour and short hike scenario during cooler fall days.

The day will begin with coffee and tea at the Venture Inn in beautiful Libby at 8:45 a.m., and will continue from there to examine ponds, interspersed wetland ecosystems, lake shores, and rivers. FSPW advises participants to come with full gas tanks, water, lunch, and hunter safety orange vests for safe viewing. Spotting scopes, binoculars, and cameras are encouraged as autumn views in our area can be stunning. The tour includes short hikes less than one mile round-trip on average and of mild to medium slope.

This free class is sponsored by Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness and Silver Cloud Associates, LLC, Outdoor Educational Programs. To register, email: [email protected] or call (406) 291-2154. Kids over 10 years old with sincere interest and adult supervisor welcome, but no dogs. The outing will end around 3 p.m.
