Dear Editor,

I am extremely disheartened by the content of Mr. Blackstone’s “Street Smart” opinion article from the September 27 issue. It appears that his focus on the “circus” of confirming Brett Kavanaugh deters from the true issue of consideration of his character and integrity. If the author was disturbed by the allegations at all then I imagine he would expect a course of action taken to ensure that the open seat in the Supreme Court remain honorable.

And to speak to Mr. Blackstone’s questioning of why it took 36 years for Ms. Ford to tell her story … really? Look at all of the women who have felt disempowered their entire careers or lives who are now finding strength to have a voice. The era of acceptance is over.

According to a Los Angeles Daily News article published in August 28, 2017, it appears that Kavanaugh is in good company with Mr. Blackstone. He is a part of the problem.

Regardless of how or when the information against Kavanaugh came to light — there it is. By pardoning the allegations as a partisan strategy, those allegations are condoned as stereotypical high school behavior. You are sending a message to current students. Boys will be boys, right?

I am speechless that Mr. Blackstone has the audacity to address this issue “logically” rather than “emotionally.” That insensitive perspective disparages women who have experienced sexual assault. Kavanaugh’s two weeks of embarrassment do not compare to Ms. Ford’s 35 years of pain.

As for your “prediction” Mr. Blackstone, you would be better off shaking a Magic 8 Ball.
