ABOVE AND BEYOND - Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel (center) presents an award to April Phillips during a luncheon sponsored by the Sanders Count DUI Task Force and Flathead Valley Chemical Dependency Clinic.

As a correction to last week's article, one special law enforcement officer was left out of the Law Enforcement Luncheon story. In that article, the DUI Task Force invited law enforcement department heads to recognize and award officers, troopers and deputies who have shown exemplary performance in their duties.

Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel spent extra time commending the office's only female deputy, April Phillips. Rummel noted that her tenacity and determination had earned her the moniker "the pit bull with lipstick." Rummel lauded her ability to go above and beyond in her regular duties as well as, "saving our butts in many sticky situations involving unruly female inmates," as well as other incidents where it would be inappropriate to put a male deputy, or at least uncomfortable.

"I really can't say enough about April and the asset she is to our office and this county," said Rummel. "I for one am so grateful to have her on the force."
