November 29, 2018

And away we go...

Busy practicing for their season debuts up to this point, western Montana athletes will hit the courts running and the mats wrestling this week as the winter prep sports seasons begin in earnest.

In basketball, three of the county's four schools will participate in the Western C Tip-Off Tournament in Frenchtown Friday and Saturday. On those same days, the Thompson Falls wrestling team will compete in the Polson Invitational in that annual season-opening grappling tournament.

The Thompson Falls girls and boys basketball teams will travel to Libby for a doubleheader with the Class A Loggers Saturday.

In the Tip-Off tourney Friday, the boys schedule includes Plains versus Drummond at 10:30 a.m., Noxon against Clark Fork (Superior-Alberton) at noon, and Hot Springs facing off with Seeley-Swan at 6 p.m. On the girls side, Plains will take on Drummond at noon, Hot Springs will play Lincoln at 1:30 p.m. and Noxon will square off with Darby at 6.

Back in Frenchtown Saturday, the boys games feature Noxon against Lincoln at noon, Plains versus Valley Christian at 3 and Hot Springs playing Darby at 6. With the girls, Noxon plays Victor at 10:30 a.m., Plains faces Clark Fork at noon, and Hot Springs will play Seeley-Swan at 3 p.m.

Although the Thompson Falls wrestling team will begin its season in the Polson Invitational this week, the Plains-Hot Springs Savage Horsemen grapplers will not officially start the season until Dec. 6, with a mixer match also involving Thompson Falls, Arlee and Eureka.
