LOOKING FOR POINTS - Plains senior Josiah Vanderwall (left) grapples with an Arlee wrestler earlier this season. Savage Horsemen grapplers head to Eureka this week and will compete in the Buzz Lucey Memorial there Saturday.

Twelve out of 15 ain't bad.

The Plains-Hot Springs Savage Horsemen wrestling team competed in a quadrangular mixer match at Arlee, also including Bigfork and Clark Fork, and coach Jeff Kujala reports that his Savage Horsemen enjoyed a very productive evening of wrestling, winning 12 of the 15 matches they competed in.

"It went really well, almost every kid got at least two matches, and we won a lot of those matches with first period pins," Kujala said. "We are extremely pleased with how we performed.

"That's not to say we still don't have a lot of work to do," he added, "but the effort is definitely there, and that is good to see."

The Savage Horsemen will complete the 2018 portion of their schedule in Eureka this weekend, wrestling in a mixer there Friday night and then competing in the annual Buzz Lucey Memorial Saturday. Kujala says P-HS grapplers will meet up with the Arlee team in Elmo Friday and that the two teams will co-op the bus ride to Eureka from there.

Peter Carey (120 pounds), Conrad Vanderwall (132) and Josiah Vanderwall (138) all won multiple matches by pin in Arlee. Kujala said Jesse Uski, Bert DeTienne, Kenzie Angle and Taylor Angle also all won matches, although Taylor got only one match at 103 pounds.

Heavyweight Stephen Yoder was sick last week and could not compete in Arlee. Kujala indicated that Mason Gannarelli, who has not wrestled yet this season, could soon be on the mats for P-HS as well.

Kujala looks forward to the team's annual trek to Eureka.

"We see a lot of kids that we don't normally see in this meet," he said. "Columbia Falls, Whitefish, maybe the Flathead and Glacier JV and a few Idaho schools, it's nice to get the chance to compete against some different wrestlers than what we see most of the season."
