Lady Devils top Trojans, Eagles

December 20, 2018

The Noxon Lady Red Devils won twice last week, taking down Troy 47-28 in a non-conference game in Noxon Thursday and knocking off the Two Eagle River Eagles 63-15 in 14C action Pablo Friday.

Now 1-1 in 14C play and 4-2 overall, coach Ryan Weltz and his Devils complete the 2018 portion of their schedule hosting Charlo Friday. Once again one of the favorites in the conference, coach Bret Thompson and his Lady Vikings downed Plains in Plains in a key 14C contest last week.

“Charlo is very good again, they are a solid team that doesn’t beat themselves,” Weltz said. “The key for us is to believe we can play with them, to let go of pre-conceived notions and just go out and play hard.”

Weltz said that a little pressure defense went a long ways in the win over Troy last week. “We pressured them a little and that did bother them and ended up getting us some easy baskets,” he said.

Delaney Weltz scored 19 points to lead Noxon, Avery Burgess and Chelsea Vohs added six each, Kali Murray four, and Madi Koonce and Vanessa Horner two apiece.

The entire team got in on the fun against Two Eagle. “That was a fun one for the girls,” Weltz said. “We shared the ball real well and got everybody lots of minutes.”

Murray scored 13 points to lead the Devils, Kristina Brown kicked in with 12, Burgess 11 and Delaney Wetlz nine.

Scoring totals for Troy and Two Eagle River were not available.
