Savage Heat boys catch fire

February 7, 2019

They are like a heat wave, burning in District 14C.

The Hot Springs Savage Heat boys are heating up as evidenced by their strong performance last week in torching the Plains Horsemen 66-35 in Plains Friday and then burning the Red Devils 36-29 in Noxon Saturday.

Obviously playing their best basketball of the season, coach Cameron Barber and his Savage Heat boys hope to keep up the heat on their opponents this week in another pair of 14C games, hosting St. Regis Thursday and completing regular season action at Charlo Saturday.

Barber said the Heat packed in their defense to take away Plains’ inside attack and were able to get off to a hot start in that game. “We were trying to force them out of their inside game on defense, we hit four 3-pointers in the first half to take control, and kept building on the lead after that,” he said. “We played very well against Plains, one of our best games of the year. We have gotten better as the season has progressed.”

The Heat incinerated the Horsemen in spite of the fact that key scorer and rebounder Tyler Knudsen picked up two early fouls and sat out large stretches of the game after that.

Knudsen’s younger brother Brandon took care of a lot of the scoring for Hot Springs, singeing the nets for 32 points, Tyler Carr, Jack McAllister and Kyle Lawson netted nine apiece, Tyler Knudsen five and Luke Waterbury two.

At Noxon Saturday, the Heat pulled away from the Red Devils with a 21-11 win of the fourth quarter to break open a tight game. Tyler Knudsen led the win with 25 points, brother Brandon added 18, Tyler Carr eight and McAllister and Waterbury four apiece.
