REFLECTIONS - The Flat Iron Quilting Guild created a "Reflections" quilt as a raffle prize. The drawing will be held April 13 at the quilt show.

The Flat Iron Quilting Guild is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and will sponsor their traditional quilt show in April. The theme for this year's event is Reflections.

The quilt show is set for Saturday, April 13, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. at Thompson Falls School. Admission allows your entry into a world of quilts for you to explore. A variety of quilted items will be displayed in seven categories, including favorites of past quilt shows and a section of antique quilts.

To complement the quilts, a boutique will be open with handmade items by guild members available for purchase. A brown bag raffle will offer a chance to win a small handmade item for 50 cents. The guild is also raffling "Reflections," a king-sized quilt. The raffle winner will be drawn at 3 p.m.

The quilt show also will feature a variety of vendors. Valerie Hoynacki is the featured quilter this year. A white elephant sale may have a special something that you need, and Sanders County 4-H members will present a fashion review of their creations. The event also will include a complimentary team room with cookies.

Non-members can also enter their quilted creations in the show. All entries are encouraged and there is no entry fee. The guild would especially like to see quilts entered that have been past winners in their categories to be displayed in a special area of the show.

Entry forms for the Reflections show are available at Mary Anne's Fabric Shop in Plains, at the group's website at http://www.Facebook.com/FlatironQuiltingGuild, or by contacting the guild at [email protected]. Entry forms must be received by March 29. Mail entry forms to Ella Larson, 60 Swamp Creek Loop, Trout Creek, MT 59874 or email completed forms as a PDF to [email protected]

For the past 30 years, Flat Iron Quilting Guild has been a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization. The guild makes lap and child-sized quilts to be given to many people in need of a "warm hug." Currently the group is working with the Sanders County Cancer Network, Sanders County Coalition for Families (SCCFF) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). To support these efforts, the guild creates a raffle quilt, sponsors this quilt show and sells items at its boutique at the show and yearly at the Huckleberry Festival.

Flat Iron Quilting Guild is also always welcoming new members whether they are beginners or very experienced quilters. The guild meets monthly for a few hours of open sewing or a workshop and a regular group meeting. Each member is asked to make only one charity lap quilt a year as well as an item for the boutique. The guild supplies fabric and batting for the charity quilts members make. The camaraderie of the group is supportive and inspiring to enhance the love of quilting. The group also accepts donated material, partially finished blocks and quilt tops, or any quilting supplies. For information, ask any guild member or contact the group via their Facebook page or email.
