Better late than never

Weltz, Kinzie added to C All-State team well after the fact

March 28, 2019

Sanders County seniors Delaney Weltz of Noxon and Kassidy Kinzie of Plains have finally been honored as members of the Montana Class C All-State basketball team.

With the announcement of their being added to the All-State C team coming late last week, The Ledger was unable to publish this story until receiving verification from Charlo Athletic Director Shane Bartschi, who was in charge of releasing the District 14C All-Conference basketball teams to the press.

As a rule in Montana sports, district coaches gather to vote on all-conference teams following the regular season of play. Based on the total number of votes for each player, the top vote-getters are also awarded All-State honors, with the district earning more spots on that All-State team dependent on how far league teams move along in the playoffs or tournaments.

In an ideal world, administrators would have all this information ready to go at the conclusion of the playoffs and/or tournaments but this did not happen this year for some reason.

Also added, at this late hour, to the girls’ State All-C team from District 14C was Arlee senior Nellie Desjarlais, and to the State All-C boys’ team, also from Arlee, were seniors Greg Whitesell and Lane Johnson.

Alyssia Vanderburg of Arlee and Kailtin Cox of Charlo were already named All-State C for the girls’ team, and Isaac Fisher of Arlee and Landers Smith of Charlo were the boys from 14C previously named All-State C.

Weltz and Kinize were named first team District 14C All-Conference several weeks ago.
