Slow starting season set to finally take off

April 11, 2019

It’s been a slow start to the prep sports seasons in western Montana; much slower for some teams.

Mostly due to Montana’s spectacular late winter weather, Sanders County’s golf teams in Thompson Falls and Plains have not played yet, and either has the Plains-Hot Springs Trotters softball team.

Although more nasty weather is forecast through the later part of this week, all three of those teams should get their chances to finally take to the courses and fields in the coming days.

In golf, Plains and Thompson Falls will both field boys and girls teams into the Florence/Darby Invitational in Hamilton Thursday, and the Horsemen and Trotters will host the Plains Invitational at Wild Horse Golf Course west of Plains Saturday, with tee off time slated for 10 a.m.

In softball, the Trotters will begin season play Thursday hosting the two-time defending State B-C champion Florence Falcons, will play again at Deer Lodge Saturday and will host Missoula Loyola Monday. P-HS was originally scheduled to play at Anaconda this past Tuesday, but that game was washed away by weather and will not be made up.
