MOOSE CHALLENGE - The Flat Iron Quilting Guild members took part in a "Moose Challenge" for their bi-annual quilt show. Members were given the same panel of moose fabric and challenged to create a quilt with it. The quilt on the right, created by Jennifer McCrea, Donna Abrams and Ann Lundmark of Plains, won the challenge.

The Flat Iron Quilting Guild gathered more than 200 entries in their bi-annual show last Saturday. Guild member Ella Larson said that the show had good attendance, with many people coming from the Kalispell area and places including Drummond and Hamilton.

The viewer's choice award went to Peg McCarthy of Plains, and guild members honored Mellissa Compton of Plains with the Guild's Choice award. Compton is a new member of the guild.

VIEWER'S CHOICE - Peg McCarthy's bear themed quilt was the favorite among quilt show attendees.

The top bed quilt awards went to Ella Larson of Trout Creek and Nancy Wedemeyer of Thompson Falls, and best lap quilts were made by Jo Carder of Trout Creek and Kathleen Pierce of Trout Creek. Carder also won for best accessories entry, which includes items such as table runners and pillows. Child's quilt awards were earned by Wedemeyer and Dorothy Rawie of Thompson Falls. Larson also won the theme challenge, while Linda Wilson of Plains won for best wall hanging.

A new feature at the quilt show this year was a moose challenge. Guild members were split into groups of three and given the same panel with which to create a quilt. Larson said they weren't given a pattern, just a panel of fabric, and it was interesting to see all the different creations the group came up with. The Plains trio of Jennifer McCrea, Donna Abrams and Ann Lundmark won the moose challenge at the quilt show.

The theme of this year's quilt show was reflections. Members created a quilt to raffle at the show, which was won by Karen Emeott of Midland, Michigan.

The Flat Iron Quilting Guild hosts a quilt show every other year in April. For more information on being a part of the guild, visit their Facebook page.
