The Thompson Falls golf team has been busy playing, getting ready for the State B tournament.

In preparation for that big event, coach Mike Bates and his linksters have been playing through on courses across western Montana, at the Loyola Spring Fling at Canyon River in Missoula last Tuesday, at the St. Regis Invitational at Trestle Creek Thursday, and finally, at the Division 3 tournament at Old Works in Anaconda Tuesday.

As he has all season, junior Ethan Brown led the Hawk boys in the Spring Fling, carding an 84 this time to grab sixth place in individual scoring. The other Hawk boy playing in Missoula, Nathan Ostwald shot a 96 to finish not all that far off the lead as well.

In the girls meet, Megan Baxter continued to impress by shooting a 96 to win fifth. Also a key member of the Thompson Falls track and field team, Baxter will be able to fully pursue her potential in that arena as well, as the State B golf tourney is set to be played at Canyon River next Tuesday and Wednesday, and the Western B divisional track meet will be held later that week, also in Missoula.

Baxter was best in class in the St. Regis Invite, posting a round of 106 to claim first place individually. Lady Hawk Jolia Buchanan backed up Baxter with a fine round of 117.

Brown finished third with the boys behind Darby's Conner brothers Ryder and Rylee. Ryder Conner won the meet with an 80, Rylee shot 84 and Brown was third with 85.

Ostwald carded a 98 in St. Regis and Ben Croft 143.

Results from the Division 3 tourney Tuesday were not available at press time.
