Gregarious Hill gang goes with three clubs

The gregarious group of local golfers known as the Over the Hill gang always seems to find a way to make their Monday mornings of golfing fun for everyone.

Limited to only three clubs per customer this time, the Over the Hill players enjoyed another round of friendly golf at scenic River’s Bend Monday.

Proving that a limited number of options was not all that bad a deal for the thrifty golfer, Rick Kendall went out and shot a stellar round of 40 to grab low gross honors.

Also showing some good old River’s Bend grit with a limited selection of sticks, Dennis Gripp factored in his handicap to arrive at the low men’s net of 32, while Lana Nolen, the reigning grand dame of the Over the Hill league, shot the low women’s net of 39.

In hole play, Kendall was closest to the pin in 2 on No. 10, Doug Deck rolled in the long putt on No. 11 and was closest to the pin off the tee on No. 14, Ron Beaty converted the long putt on No. 12, Mike Gillmore sent the long putt down on No. 13, Ron Belger busted the long 70+ drive on No. 15, Rusty Sharp downed the long putt on No. 15, Jerry Neal put the long putt to bed on No. 16, Wally Gibe secure long-putt honors on No. 17, Dave Tallant sent the long putt to its maker on No. 18, Chuck Manry blasted the long men’s drive on No. 18, and Nolen the long women’s drive on the Bend’s clubhouse hole.

Belger (No. 10), Dave Garr (No. 16) and Beaty (No. 17) all made chip-in shots part of their three-club rounds.

Fittingly, 33 Hill players went at it in the three-club free-for-all Monday.
