Items galore in Huckleberry auction

August 8, 2019

Once again, the Huckleberry Festival Auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, on the stage in the Trout Creek Park. Bidder registration and viewing of items will begin at 5 p.m. Kevin Hill of Kevin Hill Auction Service is again donating his services.

Auction Chairperson Sandy Green said Hill also is donating special items to the auction, including a 10-lb. seasoned prime rib roast in a new cooler and a bottle of wine. Each time an item is purchased at the auction, the buyer’s name will be put into a drawing for the special package.

Green has collected donated items from businesses and individuals in from Missoula to Sandpoint, Idaho, and everywhere in between. She noted that additional items will be donated by the more than 100 vendors at the festival. Items can be viewed at the festival website, huckleberryfestival.com.

Items collected include a Seattle Seahawks package for an upcoming game, a canoe barbecue pit, an outdoor fire pit and a gym membership for a couple. A variety of other items including helicopter rides, artwork, tools, hunting and fishing items, haircuts, huckleberry products, gift certificates, jewelry, clothing, oil changes, water toys and even bags of horse treats, dog and cat food are available. For the kids, lawn games, fishing gear and a giant stuffed bear have been donated. For the home there is an outdoor cascading fountain, canning equipment and quart bags of fresh huckleberries.

Proceeds from past auctions were used for improvements in the park including bleachers in the stage area, the permanent bathrooms and upgrades to the vendor booths in the park. The festival is working on establishing a community commercial kitchen in the park in conjunction with the Trout Creek Community Improvement Association, the Trout Creek Park Board and other interested parties, as well as upgrading the playground equipment.
