The Over the Hill gang golfers looked southward for inspiration Monday and decided to go with a Baja scramble format to spice things up.

Breaking off into teams of two, the Baja scramble format requires each player to hit the teammate’s drive from wherever it lands, and the third shot is determined by where the worst second shot ends up. After that it falls back into a regular scramble format.

Playing the worst ball best, Reese Woolford and Dave Tallant finished their nine holes on River’s Bend with a score of 32.5, and the teams of Charlie Hooten and Buck Adams, and Chuck Manry and Dan Whittenburg finished tied for second with 33.

In hole play, Adams ran in the long putt on Nos. 11 and 13, Liz Morkert rolled in the long putt on No. 10, Ron Sharp was good with the long putts on Nos. 12 and 17, Rusty Sharp was closest to the hole off the tee on No. 14, Darrel “Torgy” Torgrimson smacked the long 70+ drive on No. 15, Hooten chased in the long putt on No. 15, Dave Garr put the long putt to bed on No. 16, Ron Beaty shot down the long putt on No. 18, Wally Gibe hit the men’s long drive on No. 18, and Sharon Pound launched the ladies’ long drive on No. 18.

Adams (No. 10), Mike Normandin and Garr (No. 11), and Rusty Sharp (No. 17) all made chip-in shots part of their Baja scramble rounds.

It’s not known how the Over the Hill gang will go about their golfing business next Monday but rest assured, the friendly players will find a way to enjoy it.
