Cancer Network plans fall extravaganza

September 19, 2019

Cancer Network of Sanders County (CNSC) announced recently that thier annual Fall Extravaganza will be Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Plains VFW.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for the event, the biggest of the year for the local organization. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with the live auction commencing at 7 p.m.

The main purpose of this fun evening is to raise funds for the Cancer Network of Sanders County – a non-profit organization that gives financial aid to any Sanders County resident currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

In 2001, when CNSC formally started, we were able to give a $50 gift one time. As the organization has grown, the gift amount increased. The organization is now able to give a $900 gift annually to each person.

"The ability to do this is always dependent on having a generous crowd at our events," said Kathy Miller with CNSC. "As the amount of money we raise increases, so does the amount of each gift we give. If for some reason, the amount of money we raise goes down, so will the amount of money we can distribute. So far, that has never happened."

This year's Fall Extravaganza will include entertainment from Fire Creek Band. The event will feature dinner, refreshments, entertainment, games, raffles, a silent auction and live auction, featuring Kevin Hill.

Auction items this year range from baskets to football and basketball tickets, to special t-shirts to baked goods and more. "There is bound to be something special for everyone," Miller stated.

If you are a Sanders County resident currently undergoing treatment for cancer, forms for CNSC support are available at any financial institution in the county, medical clinics and a variety of other offices. Fill it out and send it to CNSC. The organization will then send a check. Though the gifts are annual, residents must apply for each time they request assistance.

Tickets for the Fall Extravaganza can be purchased at Garden Gift in Plains, D&D Liquor in Thompson Falls or at the door. Tickets are $25 per person and can be claimed as a donation to CNSC since all the expenses for the evening will be underwritten by numerous sponsors. Attendees must be 21 or older.
