Hawk boys fall in Florence

December 12, 2019

Until we meet again then.

The Thompson Falls Blue Hawk boys opened season play with a 79-55 non-conference road loss in Florence Friday. Falls coach Jake Mickelson took the loss a bit personally as his little brother Beau Neal lit up the Hawks for a game-high 29 points in leading the Falcons to the win.

“The Florence boys will have a good season,” he said, “and my little brother Beau had 29 against us. I think we have a very good chance of competing with them later on, we just have to do a better job defensively on their shooters and our offense has a ways to go but I’m confident we will make strides there as well.”

Neal was not the only Falcon hot to shoot against the Hawks as JP Briney threw down another 27 points for Florence.

Cody Burk led the Hawks with 13 points, Jack Green scored 10, Justin Morgan eight, Sidney Akinde seven, Nathan Schraeder seven, Ryan Schraeder five, Trey Fisher four and Nate Wilhite two.

Nathan Schraeder was also good for nine rebounds, three assists and four steals, Fisher added six boards and Akinde four.

Now 0-1 in non-conference play, the Hawks have another non-con week on tap as they travel to northern Montana this week for games at Choteau and Conrad Friday and Saturday. The trip is pay-back for Choteau and Conrad coming to Thompson Falls last year.

“We lost to both teams last year,” Mickelson said, “it would be good to return the favor on their home courts.”
