Savage Heat boys win, lose
December 12, 2019
The Scott Fredrickson era started out with a win as the Hot Springs Savage Heat basketball boys worked their way to a 57-53 victory over the Lincoln Lynx Friday in the Western C Tip-Off tournament in Ronan.
The Savage Heat also played Philipsburg in the tourney Saturday and reportedly lost that game, but scoring was not available for it.
After Luke Waterbury went down with an ankle sprain Friday, the Heat were down to only five players total for the game with P-burg.
Although Waterbury will remain sidelined with what Fredrickson described as a deep bone bruise for a few weeks, he also said that three more players will be eligible to play for Hot Springs this week, easing the current manpower crisis somewhat.
Fredrickson appreciated the effort his boys gave him last week. “They played hard, we are still trying to shake off the rustiness and the effects of the football season,” he said. “But these kids are doing well.
“It’s all new stuff we have put in this year so there will be an adjustment time,” he added. “We just need to get some things figured out and we will be fine.”
Brandon Knudsen led the Heat to the win over Lincoln with 19 points, Jack McAllister scored 18, Kyle Lawson 12, and Waterbury and Lincoln Slonaker four apiece.
Only three players scored for Lincoln as Nathan Brown netted 21 points, Brodi Henderson 18 and Ryan Greenwood 14.
Although scoring from Saturday’s game with Philipsburg was not available, Fredrickson said Knudsen threw down a game-high 35 points to lead Hot Springs in defeat.
The Heat have only one game, part of a boy-girl doubleheader with Victor in Hot Springs Saturday, this week.
