Young Lady Devils gaining confidence

January 16, 2020

The younger they are, the harder they fall… until they rise that is.

The painfully young Noxon Red Devil girls dropped a pair of District 14C conference games last week, falling 60-36 to Clark Fork in Superior Friday and 50-26 to league-leading Hot Springs in Noxon Saturday.

Coach Cortney Vohs and her Devils have two home games on tap this week, hosting Troy Thursday and Plains Friday.

Without a single senior on the roster, Vohs knows the Lady Devils may have to take their share of lumps now and into the near future, but should be able to start dishing out some punishment of their own when they start figuring things out.

“We are a really young team without a lot of varsity experience coming into the season,” Vohs said. “But we don’t want these girls to get discouraged. We can’t hang our heads because what we are going through now is going to pay off for us later.”

Freshman Avery Burgess led Noxon against Hot Springs with 10 points, sophomore Vanessa Horner scored six, Izzy Lampshire and Emily Brown three each and Jaden Murray two.

Brown grabbed six rebounds for Noxon and Burgess and Horner four apiece. Chelsea Vohs grabbed four steals.

Please see other story for Hot Springs scoring.

Against Clark Fork, Burgess had six boards and Vohs and Murray four each, and Murray, Brown and Vohs had three steals apiece.
