The Thompson Falls School Board has selected Michael Magone to serve as interim superintendent after the recent death of Bill Cain. Magone is a retired superintendent who led the Lolo School District for 13 years. In 2014, he was named Superintendent of the Year by the Western Montana Association of School Superintendents.

The school board held a special meeting last Wednesday to select an interim superintendent while the school district is searching for a permanent replacement for Cain.

Magone grew up in Missoula and has roots in the Superior area. In his career, he also taught in Columbia Falls and was prinipal at Lincoln County High School in Eureka and superintendent of the Target Range School District. He also went to law school and practiced law for a couple years.

"Even though I'll be there part-time to help with things, what it really comes down to is the teamwork of the people who are there now," Magone said. "People have been stepping up to fill in and help out and they've been doing a good job."

This week, Magone met with administrators and staff. "I really appreciate the opportunity to help out and work with folks in Thompson Falls," he said. "I'm only here part-time, so we put together a list of the priorities to work on and will do our best to get critical things taken care of."
