Farmer's market finds manager

March 26, 2020

The Trout Creek Community Improvement Association (TCCIA), a non-profit working to better the town of Trout Creek, is striving to keep their year on track.

“Despite everything we are still moving in a positive direction,” said Board Chair Liz Stender. She explained that the TCCIA does a lot throughout the year and is trying to make most of those things happen on schedule. Stender also gave several updates on planned events throughout the year, including some cancelations in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The first bit of news Stender wanted to communicate was that the TCCIA has found a possible candidate willing to take over the farmer’s market manager position. Currently the only thing standing in the way is a vote by the TCCIA board. The prospect’s name is Kathy Regier, a past TCCIA board member.

Stender also mentioned that she has been working on securing a grant to help fund a “facelift” for the Trout Creek Park, as well as for the construction of a new playground. According to Stender, the current playground is “falling apart” and is a “safety concern.” The park is owned by the TCCIA and was donated to the organization years ago. However, many other Trout Creek groups help to care for it and to update it. “It’s a perfect example of a community effort,” Stender said about the park, which also gets help from Huckleberry, Inc., the organization responsible for hosting the famous annual Huckleberry Festival.

Stender continued to talk about the plans for the start of the summer with a tentative time for a special community event. Possibly the first week in June, TCCIA wants to hold an event inviting locals to meet the new farmer’s market manager as well as to invite a few venders to sell starts for gardens. The event will also serve to recruit new venders for the summer farmer’s market, with information about how to get involved.

Some events canceled this year include the park clean-up and the Easter egg hunt. The TCCIA is also reaching out for volunteers during the summer events and especially help with the weekly farmer’s markets, tentatively scheduled to start July 8 and run for at least eight weeks.
