Our Viewpoint

Help for others for the holidays

December 10, 2020

This holiday season, similar to this whole year, looks a little different. We gathered at safe distances last week for Christmas on Main Street festivities in Thompson Falls. Now begins the final preparations for Christmas.

The large gatherings and parties won't be happening, and probably few people will be traveling to visit their loved ones. Things will just be different.

What hasn't changed is the need to help others in our community. This week, we have published the Guide to Local Giving on page 7. Thank you to First Security Bank for again sponsoring this listing of organizations in Sanders County. The majority of these organizations have had to get creative for funding and soliciting donations this year. They've had to change the way they interact with our communities. The need for these organizations hasn't changed.

In this year of the COVID-19 pandemic, it's important we help our local organizations in the holiday season when they get so many more requests for services. Along with monetary donations or donations of gifts for the Tree of Hearts or Toys for Tots, these organizations are in need of volunteers. If you have a special skill or passion, see if you can help a local organization.

Though we can't be together in the traditional ways this holiday season, together we can support our community and those in need.
