Lady Devils split 14C contests

The Noxon Lady Red Devils split District 14C conference games last week, defeating the Savage Heat 49-25 in Hot Springs Friday and returning to Noxon and falling to Clark Fork 40-18 Saturday.

Noxon coach Cortney Vohs said the results were a mixed bag for her Lady Red Devils.

“We played well at times, especially against Hot Springs,” she said. “Clark Fork threw a different defense at us, a box-and-one, and it gave us some problems, so we will be working on that.”

Vohs said the Mountain Cats mixed it up with their box-and-one defense, using it on Avery Burgess through part of the game and on Chelsea Vohs in others.

Burgess still scored seven points to lead the Devils, Riley Richter added five, Vanessa Horner four and Emily Brown two. Coach Vohs was pleased with how her girls rebounded in that game as Richter pulled down 10 boards, Brown nine, Horner six and Burgess five.

Freshman Lanie Crabb scored 11 points to lead Clark Fork.

Against Hot Springs, Vohs scored a team-high 13 points and passed out three assists, Brown had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, Burgess counted 11 points and four steals, Richter was good for nine points, seven rebounds and four steals, and Dylan Vigil added four points.

Coach Vohs and her Devils will get a double dose of the Charlo Lady Vikings this week, hosting the Vikings Tuesday (a score was not available) and visiting Charlo Saturday.

Charlo is unbeaten and largely unchallenged to this point in the season. “We want to show that we can play with this team,” coach Vohs said. “We know they are very good but we want to prove we can compete with a team like that, and this week is a good chance to hopefully show it.”
